Antique Swedish Silver-Mounted Meerschaum Long-Stem Tobacco Pipe – Early 19th Century
A wonderful and unusual antique Scandinavian long-stem tobacco pipe, measuring approximately 20 inches overall.
The pipe features a beautifully aged meerschaum bowl with extensive natural coloration from use, a hinged pierced metal wind cap, long multi-section stem, woven/textured grip section, decorative cord and tassel, and hallmarked metal mounts.
The silver-colored mount bears a series of old Swedish-style hallmarks. Research indicates the marks are consistent with Swedish silver hallmarks, including what appears to be the Swedish Three Crowns control mark and Stockholm/St. Erik mark.
The remaining marks appear potentially consistent with a G:P maker’s mark and F3 Swedish date code. F3 corresponds to 1812 in the Swedish date-letter system. Because the marks are heavily worn, I am describing the maker and exact date as possible rather than guaranteed.
The pipe shows considerable age and genuine use. There is wear, scratching, patination, discoloration and cracking visible to the meerschaum bowl, along with heavy smoking residue inside. Metal components show tarnish and age-related wear. Please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
The pipe has intentionally NOT been cleaned or polished, in order to preserve its original patina and historical character.
An unusual survivor and an interesting piece for a collector of antique pipes, Swedish silver, Scandinavian antiques or early tobacciana.
