Up for sale is a beautiful, guaranteed original United States Navy (USN) officer's uniform coat button. This piece features a highly desirable civilian merchant backmark, connecting it directly to one of the most famous department store names in American retail history.
**Design & Historical Attributes:**
* **Front Design:** Features the pre-1941 official regulation Navy motif showing an American eagle facing left, perched on a horizontal fouled anchor. An arch of 13 stars sits above the eagle against a crisp lined background.
* **Backmark:** Clearly stamped "JOHN WANAMAKER / PHILA." surrounding the wire shank. John Wanamaker’s elite Philadelphia department store featured a custom uniform department that tailored premium clothing for military officers, maritime bands, and academies during the late 1800s and early 1900s.
* **Size:** Standard 7/8 inch (approx. 22mm) front coat button size.
**Condition:**
Excellent antique "non-dug" condition. The face retains brilliant, sharp relief details with much of its original bright gold gilt finish intact.
