Relics in ChristianityWithin Roman Catholicism, relics refer to the remains of the bodies of saints or objects that have been in contact with the body of Jesus, Mary, or another saint.
Such objects are classified into three categories, in order of importance:

VenerationThe veneration of relics can be traced back to the early Christian custom of celebrating the liturgy above or near the grave of martyrs, for example in the catacombs in Rome.
