This listing is for a fragment of Kapton Foil which was carried onboard the perilous flight of Apollo 13, from April 11–17, 1970.The artifact measures approximately 4 cm across, and it's been mounted to an 8" x 10" photo for display. This item also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity listing its provenance.
This foil was attached to the exterior of the Command Module Odyssey to provide thermal insulation. It was exposed to vacuum of space, and it protected the astronauts from both the cold of outer space and the heat of re-entry. On April 15, this material went around the far side of the moon.After the return of Apollo 13, the Kapton Foil was removed by NASA engineers. One large piece of this was obtained by Sandy Clarkson of The Right Stuff Inc, one of the most notable and trusted archivists of Apollo material in the world. The fragment for sale here was taken from this larger piece.
