This doll was handcrafted by the award-winning master artisan Masae Fujikawa (藤川正衛, 1942–2015). His signature is visible on the green decorative box background next to the red seal stamp. The artisan has received the highly prestigious Prime Minister\'s Award, which is one of the highest honors available for traditional Japanese craftspeople. The doll is meticulously hand-turned from Mizuki wood (Giant Dogwood), chosen traditionally for its smooth texture and pale white backdrop that beautifully holds dyed colors.
