This unusual 203 grams (7 ⅛ oz) BG3 specimen from Piauí, Minas Gerais, Brazil features light smoky citrine, a pale pink rose quartz layer, abundant quartz crystallization and beautifully visible record keepers.
One of the most interesting features of this specimen is the subtle light pink layer running through a portion of the piece. The pink coloration of the rose quartz is quite pale and can appear more or less noticeable depending on the lighting and viewing angle.
The specimen has wonderful three-dimensional growth, with larger light smoky citrine crystals emerging among an extensive field of smaller quartz points. The secondary crystallization creates a highly textured surface with numerous reflective faces and small terminations throughout the piece.
Several of the larger crystal faces display distinct triangular record keeper formations. These become especially noticeable as the specimen is moved under directional lighting, with multiple triangles appearing across the reflective crystal faces.
The coloring throughout ranges from light smoky and champagne/citrine tones to clear and milky quartz, along with the subtle pale pink rose quartz layer. Because of the combination of different growths, there is something different to see from nearly every angle.
This crystal has been classified as BG3. Key characteristics of BG3 crystals include the following:
