Belgique, Pantheon de la Guerre Painting, Paris France - 1918 d/b Postcard For Sale

This is a vintage divided back postcard, unposted and featuring a scene called Belguque, from the Pantheon de la Guerre in Paris France in 1918. The Pantheon de la Guerre was a monumental artwork painted in Paris during World War I, a panorama measuring 402 feet by 45 feet and considered the largest painting in the world. It included life sized portraits of around 6000 wartime figures. The painting was coordinated by artists Pierre Carrier Belleuse and Auguste Francois-Marie Gorguet. After display in Paris, the painting was sold in 1927 to US businessmen, where it was altered and toured the United States, appearing at several World\'s Fairs. Eventually it was ended up at Liberty Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri, where only around 7 percent of the original work was retained to emphasize the United States contribution to the war.
