This size-10 ring was handcrafted by me, from a genuine vintage $1 gaming token from Binion’s Horseshoe on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas.This token had already lived a life long before it reached my bench. The original lettering and details were heavily worn from use, and that wear remains visible in the finished ring. The ring looks as well-traveled as the old casino token it was made from — worn by decades of use rather than made to look old today. I chose to preserve that history rather than try to erase it.And this token comes from a casino with a story.Benny Binion opened the Horseshoe on Fremont Street in 1951 after acquiring the Eldorado Club. The Horseshoe became famous for its no-nonsense approach to gambling, unusually high betting limits and hospitality, and it helped shape the character of old downtown Las Vegas. It was also the birthplace of the World Series of Poker, which began there in 1970. The original brass token features a cowboy and the words “Acceptable Only at the Horseshoe” on one side, with poker imagery and “Las Vegas, NV” on the other. Those designs now wrap around the band, while portions of the cowboy and original casino lettering remain visible inside. This is not a pristine ring made from a pristine token—and it isn’t intended to be. The softened lettering, marks and wear shown in the photos were part of the original gaming token and are part of its history.
