Solid Bronze Saraswati Statue 7\" Heavy Lost-Wax Himalayan Nepal Hindu Goddess on SwanUp for sale is a beautiful, heavy vintage solid bronze/brass statue depicting the Hindu Goddess Saraswati seated upon her swan vehicle (Hamsa) while playing the veena.Hindu Goddess of Knowledge, Music, Art, and WisdomCrafted in the Himalayan region (Nepal) during the mid 20th century, this piece was constructed using the traditional lost-wax casting method. The details are exceptional, featuring fine hand-chiseled textures on the swan\'s feathers, an ornate openwork lotus pedestal base, and a stamped eight-pointed lotus hallmark sealing the copper baseplate. The finish is a rich, two-tone distressed factory patina showcasing deep dark recesses contrasted against vibrant golden brass highlights on the raised details. Solid BronzeHeight: 7 inchesWeight: 1 lb. 10 oz.Hallmark: Stamped 8-Pointed LotusMaterial: High-copper bronze alloy with an authentic copper underside.- The Facial Features: The broad brow, long almond-shaped eyes, and smooth contours point directly to a Himalayan style (Newari/Nepalese or Tibetan casting traditions). This perfectly aligns with the eight-pointed lotus base plate stamp underneath.
- The Attire and Crown: She wears a tall, tiered crown (karandamukuta) and fine jewelry details that are typical of traditional high-quality lost-wax metalwork.
- The Hamsa (Swan): The bird vehicle features intricate, stippled wing textures with fine geometric patterns hand-chiseled into the casting.
- The Casting: This piece was created using the lost-wax casting method (Cire Perdue). This process destroys the mold during production, making the statue entirely unique.
- Surface Tooling: The crisp engraving lines across the bird\'s feathers and the smooth symmetry of her hands show meticulous, skilled hand-finishing work after the metal was cooled.
- Capped Sealed Base: Contains Religeous Consecration Ceremonial items: Sacred Scrolls, Organic materials and Offerings.
This confirms it is an excellently crafted, authentic piece of mid-20th-century Himalayan export art. It holds wonderful value as a decorative religious icon.Condition Note: The statue is in beautiful vintage condition with a rich, hand-buffed patina. Please note it is missing its original detachable rear aureole halo/back-plate. The horizontal rear guide channel behind the crown is entirely intact and undamaged (see close-up photo), which would allow a replacement halo to be slotted in seamlessly if desired.
