This cheerful chrome postcard depicts a group of eight young people ice skating hand-in-hand on Mountain Lake, located 3 miles off Route U.S. 46 near Buttzville, New Jersey. The skaters are dressed in colorful 1950s winter attire — bold orange, red, and yellow sweaters — gliding across the frozen 120-acre lake with white resort buildings and wooded hills visible in the background. The scene perfectly captures the carefree recreational spirit of mid-century American winter leisure. The back text promotes Mountain Lake as a destination for ice-skating, ice-boating, sleigh-riding, skiing, and tobogganing, all enjoyed with music and floodlights. Refreshments and dancing were available at The Casino, and a Roller Skating Rink was also on site. The post office address given is Belvidere, N.J., and visitors were directed to \'Ask for Buckenmyers.\' The card was published by The Scheller Co. of Hackettstown, N.J., with color photography credited to George E. Scheller (catalog number 5840). This is a standard-size divided back chrome postcard consistent with production from the 1950s. The card is unposted and unused with no writing on either side. Condition is Excellent — corners are sharp and the surfaces are clean, with only a faint scratch line in the printed sky area on the front that does not detract significantly from the image. An appealing piece of New Jersey social history and winter recreation nostalgia, ideal for collectors of Garden State postcards, resort history, or mid-century Americana.
