Charles B. Farwell U.S. Senate House Representatives Wealthy Businessman
Farwell was a Republican businessman and politician from Illinois. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives (1871–1876 and 1881–1883) and as U.S. Senator from Illinois (January 19, 1887–March 3, 1891), filling the vacancy left by the death of John A. Logan. He did not seek a full Senate term.
He made his fortune in Chicago real estate, banking, and the wholesale dry-goods firm J.V. Farwell & Co. (with his brother John). The family were major early benefactors of Lake Forest College.
