The brochure was prepared by Pedro A. Sanjuan, and printed by the Democratic National Committee in New York, NY., circa 1959 - 1960.
The 1960 Kennedy Presidential campaign was one of the earliest attempts to directly reach out to and attempt to mobilize the Latinx, Latino, or Hispanic communities.
At the time, the largest potential voting blocs consisted primarily of Mexican Americans, located in the Southwestern US, Puerto Ricans, generally clustered in the larger Northeastern cities, and the burgeoning Cuban refugee population in the Miami, Florida area.
Despite the growth of the Latino population in the US, very few people had the vision to see the potential of its voting power.
One of the few who did was Edward Roybal, a liberal councilman in LA.
In 1960, at the Democratic National Convention, hewas instrumental in focusing attention of the Kennedy campaignon the Mexican Americans eligible to vote in Southern California.
They did indeed turn out for Kennedy and helped to propel him to victory.
A WW2 veteran with a distinguished service record, presidential candidate John F. Kennedy was of course a dynamic speaker. Who would go on to break several barrier and norms throughout his campaign, and later as President of the United States as well.
He has been lionized and idolized by multiple generations of Americans of all political persuasions since his tragic assassination in Dallas on November 22nd, 1963, including numerous, famous, Democratic politicians. In fact, he is by far the most popular of all of the modern day presidents, with an approval rating exceeding 90%.
I\'ve been a book & ephemera lover, collector, and dealer for 40 years.
But despite searching over a half a billion book listings online (And yes, I know how to search the internet in all of those obscure nooks and crannies)! LOL!I have been unable to locate another copy of this Spanish language election brochure!
Would make a great, one-of-a-kind framed display for the office of a lawyer, politician, doctor, engineer, or other professional who looks up to President Kennedy and the ideals he espoused.
Brochure measures 8 & 1/2\" high x 3 & 1/2\" wide when closed, 14\" wide when fully unfolded.
