In silver, diameter 47mm. The star was instituted by Mohammed Nadir Khan to reward officers who had worked towards the defeat of Bacha-i-Saqao (Habibullah Ghazi). In the 1920s, King Amanullah (1919–1929) attempted to end his country\'s traditional isolation and introduce modernization through reforms inspired by the secular regime of Kemal Ataturk in Turkey. Some of these reforms alienated tribal and religious leaders and he was forced to abdicate in January 1929, then Kabul was taken with Pashtun support, by Bacha-i-Saqao, a Tajik warlord. The latter\'s reign of Khan of Afghanistan ended with his overthrow and execution in October 1929 by Prince Mohammed Nadir Shah, a cousin of King Amanullah. He then consolidated his grip on power, reversed or slowed down the implementation of Amanullah Khan\'s reforms in favor of more gradual modernization, and awarded this decoration to loyal officers.
