Striking hand-carved and hand-painted Navajo Kachina/Katsina doll by artist Danny Begay, representing Mongwa, the Great Horned Owl.
This impressive figure features an elaborate owl head covered in natural gray and brown fur with large yellow eyes, a carved yellow and black beak, and an array of natural feathers surrounding the head to create a dramatic owl-like appearance.
The carved wooden body is hand-painted in white with large red circular accents. The figure wears a brown suede-style apron decorated with a colorful turquoise, red, and black geometric design. Additional details include red yarn fringe, a white fringed cape, shell decorations around the waist, black ties, and fur trim around the ankles.
The figure holds bundles of thin wooden sticks in both hands and is securely mounted on a natural wood slab base.
