Dean Drahos Enamel on Copper Bird Plate Cleveland Ohio For Sale

Striking original Dean Franklin Drahos (American, 1937–2010) enamel on copper art plate, featuring a beautifully rendered bird in rich yellow, olive, brown and black against an atmospheric iridescent ground of blue, violet, green and gold. The work displays the experimental surface and luminous color effects associated with Drahos's enamel work, with the metallic enamel changing considerably depending on the angle and lighting. Drahos was a prominent Cleveland-area artist and educator who studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art and Case Western Reserve University and later served as Associate Professor and Chair of the Art Department at Baldwin-Wallace College. His work was exhibited at institutions including the Cleveland Museum of Art and Butler Institute of American Art, and he was among the American enamelists invited to participate in the International Biennial of Enamel in Limoges, France. The reverse bears Drahos's distinctive engraved signature and a hanging fixture for wall display. Measures approximately 6 1/8" in diameter.
