Gray co-founded Western Electric and filed a patent caveat for a telephone on the very same day as Alexander Graham Bell, leading to one of the most controversial patent disputes in American history. Despite Bell being awarded the patent, Gray’s legacy as a pioneer in telecommunications is well recognized.
