Fort Davis National Historic Site Collectible Token For Sale

Fort Davis is located in the Davis Mountains of West Texas, and preserves one of the best remaining examples of a US Army Fort in the southwestern US. Established in 1854 as part of the Frontier Forts System, the fort was strategically located to protect emigrants, mail coaches and freight wagons used to settle the American west. It was a place of refuge for weary travellers, a trading center, and an outpost in the continuing battles against weather and lawlessness often encountered in the Western US. The fort was evacuated in April 1861 under orders from General Twiggs at the start of the Civil War. The US reoccupied the Fort after the War in June 1867, and it became important in history to the understanding and support of African Americans in the West since the all-Black regiments of the 9th and 10th US Calvary, also known as the Buffalo Soldiers, were stationed here.
