This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is approximately 7 x 5 inches (180x130mm).
It shows the French pre-dreadnought battleship Masséna moored in a harbour. The ship features a pronounced tumblehome hull, heavy military masts, two large funnels, and a prominent ram bow. Mountains and coastal buildings are visible in the background along the shoreline. A small boat is tied alongside the hull of the warship, and a flag is flying at the stern. The number \"15954\" is written in white in the bottom left corner of the image.
The reverse has a large handwritten name \"Masséna\" in blue crayon across the centre. There is cursive French text in purple ink mentioning \"La grande Revue navale a Toulon\" and noting the ship will take the President of the Republic on board. A stamped mark reads \"MEURISSE 9, Faubg Montmartre, PARIS TÉLÉP. 204-02\". A large brown stain and paper residue obscure some of the handwritten text on the left side of the card.
