French Sailors Reading Mail Arromanches Aircraft 3.f-16 Dien Bien Phu 1954 Photo For Sale

This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is approximately 7 x 5 inches (180x130mm).

It shows, in silver gelatin, three French naval personnel sitting and squatting on a textured metal deck reading papers. Two of the men wear traditional French naval caps with pom-poms and striped shirts. Behind them is the dark fuselage of an aircraft marked with the number \'357\', a roundel containing an anchor, and the text \'3.F-16\'.

The reverse has a green typewritten slip titled \'L\' Aeronavale Dans La Bataille De Dien Bien Phu.\' The French text describes aircraft from the carrier Arromanches participating in the battle and notes the men are reading mail during a moment of respite, dated \'9 Avril 1954.\' There is a red handwritten number \'3002 \' and a partially obscured purple stamp reading \' Robert C..\', \' Reportages Photogra..\', \'3, Rue Fontaine.
