Previously (from 1956 to 1970), the sign just had one solid black line that only indicated the end of the speed limit. This version indicates the end of both the speed limit and prohibitions on overtaking. Signs just like these are posted all along the roads throughout Germany, typically on the Autobahn outside of urban areas.
An original of these is most likely to be found in active service along the roads of Germany. The authorities know where they are supposed to be—on their posts, not in the trunk of your car. So here's your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece...without chancing legal trouble.
