The battery operated clock does needs a battery which is not included. I cannot guarantee it will work with a battery however if it does not, the clock itself can easily be replace. On one foot is a small manufacture flaw which is difficult to see (see photo). Otherwise this awesome French beauty\'s porcelain case is in excellent condition with no chips, hairlines, or paint flakes.
