Once upon a time, my company came across a cartoon map of Northport, Long Island, created by Sea Gull Graphics.They produced a number of great maps in the 1980s, all illustrated by an artist I had admired.Cartoon maps like the ones Sea Gull Graphics made were so much more than directions — they were a blend of storytelling, community spirit, and visual charm.
Some time later I was working off Island for a printer in NJ and saw a really bad Cartoon map horribly drawn. Myself, being an artist thought I can do much better and perhaps revive the art I saw from Sea Gull.Shortly after, I formed a company that went on to produce over 50 maps of Long Island. I always tried to find the best artists I could to ink my pencil outlines after the sales were done. Those were some stellar times, filled with creativity and great memories.
The Fire Island maps were perhaps my favorites along with Huntington, Northport, Long Beach and a couple others.
After the continued endless search, I found some mad magazine guys that wanted to kill me in the end due to the finally realized amount of detail that was involved to produce the kind of art I wanted.Each map has it's own character. Some artists really went wild with imagination that exceeded my expectations. Looking back I can only smile.The maps posted are all in mint condition. There were kept in large drafting drawers for the past 30 + years. Holy smoke...time goes on.
The item's dimensions are approximately 24" x 36" and fits a stock frame.
The colors are all vibrant and clear. The maps are shipped rolled in a cardboard tube.I once saw a store owner that created a wall of them.
We did 2 Huntington Maps. This was the first one drawn by a more technical artist Oliver Yourke. Oliver had his own style and reflected on several other early maps we did.
