Handcrafted Vintage Sewing / Trinket Box
Detailed parquetry lid - dovetailed construction - likely 1920s-1930s A beautifully handcrafted wooden box, made by the owner's uncle for his wife and used for many years as her sewing box. Its detailed parquetry-style inlaid lid, careful dovetailed construction and neatly fitted joinery give it the wonderfully individual character of a piece made by hand rather than manufactured.
Likely dating to the 1920s-1930s, the box combines decorative craftsmanship with plain, practical construction on the hidden surfaces. Its varied woods and materials have the resourceful character associated with Depression-era home craftsmanship, when a talented maker often worked creatively with what was available.
The aged paper lining remains in place, secured with old brass thumbtacks. The wood shows small marks and surface wear from decades of household use - honest signs of age that suit the history of a useful and much-kept family piece.
Approx. size: 5” high x 8 ½” wide at body x 6 ½”deep, base extends about 1” beyond body.
