Historic 1776 Relic from Independence Hall in Philadelphia For Sale

This is a beautifully mounted certificate which contains two wood chips that were obtained during restoration of Independence Hall in 1897. One chip came from a floor beam of the room where the Declaration of Independence was signed. The second chip came from the railing in the Liberty Bell Tower. The certificate measures 5.5" x 4.5". Independence Hall was constructed in 1732-1735 and was renovated in 1897. The Superintendent of Independence Hall came into possession of 16 beams removed during renovation. The Wolf Art Company of Philadelphia acquired the beams and cut one into chips that were used to make souvenir certificates. The certificate is mounted on white paper with a decorative ragged edge and then on blue mat board. It is encased in a black wood frame which measures 11" x 10.25" and is ready for hanging. The back of the frame has a statement by a subsequent owner of the wood chips as to their history and authenticity. Also included is an original certificate of guarantee from Samuel Reeves, the Superintendent of Independence Hall during the renovation which was produced by the Wolf Art Company. It has some toning due to age. The white dot in the picture is from the flash reflection on the glass. It is not present in the item.
