Historical OutlineThe Weighing of the Heart ceremony, was a crucial aspect of ancient Egyptian mythology and religious belief concerning the afterlife. According to Egyptian mythology, after death, the soul of the deceased would undergo a journey through the underworld, culminating in the Hall of Maat, where the Weighing of the Heart ceremony took place.During this ceremony, the heart of the deceased was weighed against the feather of Maat, the goddess of truth, justice, and cosmic order. The heart represented the individual's moral conscience and actions in life, while the feather symbolized truth and divine harmony. The scales were overseen by Anubis, the god of mummification and the afterlife, and Thoth, the god of wisdom and writing.If the heart was found to be lighter than the feather, it meant that the individual had lived a righteous life in accordance with Maat's principles. In this case, the soul was deemed worthy to continue its journey into the afterlife, where it would join the gods and enjoy eternal bliss. However, if the heart was heavier than the feather, it indicated that the individual had committed sins or transgressions in life.
