Hull Yacht Club - Hull Peninsula - Boston Harbor - Hull, Mass. - 1924 Era - Rare Steamship China Heavyweight Cream Pitcher - Creamer
Offered is a very rare 1924 to early 1930\'s era side logo 3 1/4\" tall handleless hotel china / steamship china creamer made for the Hull Yacht Club on the Hull Peninsula (Hull Island area) in the Boston Harbor at Hull, Massachusetts.
This is the first such creamer I have ever seen in this pattern even after collecting now for many years.
This is an early 20th Century pattern that appears to have been made early on in the post Scammell China Co.\'s production after its 1924 ownership change from the Maddock China Co. in Trenton, New Jersey.
The pattern on this creamer is rarely seen in this vintage heavyweight type steamship, hotel, and railroad china / restaurant ware featuring the club\'s older 1920\'s era burgee - pennant flag logo in red and blue with the crossed \"x\" with the star in the center. There was never that much of this china made during this period, which would have been used at the club\'s restaurant / dining room at the Hull Yacht Club clubhouse, along with, possible service on member\'s yachts.
The club itself was in 1880 at Hull on what is the Peninsula that also is connected with Nantasket Beach. Though many consider it almost an island, it is actually a peninsula that is well out into the Boston Bay area. The club merged with the Massachusetts Yacht Club in 1899, and with the Boston Yacht Club in 1903.Their large clubhouse, which had been opened in 1891, was demolished in the 1930s. A new club was formed in 1932, using the former clubhouse of the Old Beacon Club on Allerton Hill. This was relocated to Fitzpatrick Way in 1939. Fast forward to today, and the club is still in operation.
This creamer would have been used in connection with the Hull Yacht Club\'s hotel silver soldered - silver plate and glassware for dining and cabin usage.
It has no cracks, no chips, and only very light usage. It would have been used for holding dairy cream for hot coffee and hot tea for use with the club\'s teapot and coffee pot / dining service. Please study the photos and feel free to message any questions.
