Jean‑Baptiste Faure (1830–1914) — autograph letter signed, dated 4 December 1904, written in his late Belle Époque period. A warm personal note in which Faure apologises for being “trop grippé” (down with the flu) and unable to attend a private musical soirée. He regrets missing the chance to applaud the “petites fauvettes”, his affectionate term for young female singers.
He asks that his respects and regrets be conveyed to Madame Delègue, almost certainly a Parisian salon hostess or patroness active in amateur vocal circles — exactly the social world Faure moved in during his retirement.
Written on a 4‑page bifolium, with 2 pages completed in Faure’s late‑life hand: neat, rounded, and characteristic of his correspondence after withdrawing from the Opéra stage.

Jean-Baptiste Faure (Jan 1830 – Nov 1914) was a French operatic baritone and art collector who also composed several classical class=\"MsoNormal\">One of c.2,500+ items once from the collection or dealer stock of Winifred A Myers (Autographs) Ltd, St Martins Lane, London, evidenced by the quantity of Myers pre-printed envelopes and paper folders and the general ‘presentation’ of the items, many having Myers identification notes in pencil.
Winifred Alice Myers (1909 - 1985) served as ABA (Antiquarian Booksellers Assoc) president, 1950-1952. See the ABA website for an extended article on Myers. Myers left her business, in 1985, to Ruth Shepherd, who traded from home until 2004.
