John F. Kennedy Signature as President-Elect ~ From Day After Birth of John Jr.
35th President. Floral bouquet card signed by President-elect John F. Kennedy on November 26th, 1960, the day following the birth of his son, John F. Kennedy Jr. at Georgetown University Hospital.
The caud has two manuscript notations (in an unknown hand):
"Senator J.F. Kennedy Nov. 26, 1960" and “Georgetown Univ Hospital".
The card measures 3.5" x 2.25", with image of floral arrangement on verso.
Tape residue next to signature, light fold down center line.
Housed in rigid archival sleeve, inside of a custom blue cloth folder.
John F. Kennedy Jr. was born on November 25, 1960, at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., just over two weeks after his father, John F. Kennedy, was elected the 35th President of the United States. The baby was born premature via cesarean section, with the president-elect in Palm Beach for meetings. He arrived back in Washington four hours after the birth of his son, and visited the hospital numerous times over the 10-day period the family spent in the hospital.
It can be surmised that this card, unaccomplished, accompanied a gift for the new parents and most likely was the easiest item accessible for an eager hospital employee who wanted a memento from JFK.
