Kalamkari Dupatta - Hindu god Krishna and Balarama, hand painting on Silk, India For Sale

This hand-painted Kalamkari artwork features the Hindu deities Krishna and Balarama, made on premium Bangalore silk fabric. The length of this dupatta is 8 ft and it is 3 ft wide. I had the awesome experience to meet a team of craftsmen and women who preserved this ancient Indian art in a small temple town Srikalahasti in the southern Indian state Andhra Pradesh. The silk it is painted on is Bangalore silk. The silkworms here are on a strict diet of mulberry leaves. It has a beautiful dusky golden sheen and is not bleached white to enhance the color of the painting. Its cheaper alternative is Modal silk which is synthetic like nylon and hence cannot be termed silk in the classic origin sense. I stayed away from Modal silk as I wanted a genuine earthy presentation of both the Kalamkari painting and its canvas. This cloth is infused with the blessings of the Srikalahasti temple deities where pilgrims from all over India gather to offer special prayers to deflect the ill-effects of astrological misalignment on one’s life.
