Vintage 1930s Kutani Japanese Multi-Color Hand Painted Tea Set
A wonderful collection item for Japanese culture or tea enthusiasts! This vintage Kutani brand tea set is high quality, egg shell porcelain.Tea set includes a kettle with lid, creamer bowl, sugar bowl with lid, three cups and six handled plates. These plates are the iconic bean shaped dessert or sandwich plates of the 1930s era. This is a rare design combining Mt. Fuji with a temple in the middle ground and the Autumn maple leaves in the foreground.
If you look closely, the designs on them are all slightly different, given the hand painted nature! The scene depicts Mt. Fuji with a temple in the foreground, and maples leaves in an autumn background.
The edges and handles of the dishware are accented in gold and plates have a flourish above the hole of the handle, and kettle has designs along one edge and top of spout. The plates are a unique design kind of in the shape of a paint palette, with a tiny handle on the larger left side and a divot that holds the cup in place on the smaller right side.
Only slight signs of use, such as a couple instances of hard-to-see small scratches, inclusions, and a little wear on the gold portions due to provenance of age. All painted images are in great condition.
FYI: I am on the lookout for a vintage set of blank cups that will match this tea set to match the original pattern by hand painting (I am an artist). I want to do this so all six settings can be matched and used. Once I do this…the price goes up.
