LOT of eight original vintage 1973 photograph negatives featuring manual operated NS Boylan Tower in Raleigh, NC. Burned in 1988 - see info below. Notes by photographer on each negative edge. One says it's the SCL Southern RR crossing. Two show what may be the large operating levers inside the tower. One shows a train coming in with a Mustang next to it. Great historical set!

online info -Boylan Tower was a historic two-story wooden railroad interlocking tower in Raleigh, North Carolina, built in 1913 by the original Norfolk Southern Railway. It controlled the busy rail junction near the Boylan Avenue Bridge where the original Norfolk Southern line crossed the joint Seaboard Air Line and Southern Railway tracks.

• Opened: 1913, coinciding with the arrival of the original Norfolk Southern Railway into Raleigh from the east.
• Significance: It was North Carolina's last operating Armstrong lever (manual mechanical) interlocking tower.
• Function: Controlled local track switches and signals, including parts of the historic Boylan Wye near the old Raleigh Union Depot.+2

• Closed: 1985, as dispatching and control operations were moved away to regional offices like Greenville, South Carolina.
• Destruction: The empty wooden structure sat abandoned for a few years before it burned down around 1988.
• Legacy: The junction (Boylan Jct) remains an active and vital rail corridor today, carrying multiple daily freight and Amtrak services.
