KevkargaffsMaster-Series10-inch leather honing wheel for Tormek 8

The \"dirty secret\" of the standard Tormek workflow—they sell you a precision machine for the grinding, then tell you to \"freehand\" the most critical final step on a smaller leather wheel. This method completely defeats the very purpose of buying the Tormek. By freehanding on a smaller wheel, the user is guaranteed to round the apex or change the bevel angle. You just spent 10 minutes setting a perfect edge with a jig, you paid out big bucks to get the Tormek jig system, and then ditch it just when you need it most; it’s nonsensical.

The next level in Tormek sharpening is here: the kevkargaffsMaster-Series10-inch/250mm leather wheel.

This 10-inch solid leather, 2-inch-wide honing wheel will take your Tormek 8 to a level you didn’t know was possible. For those of you who don’t know, leather is the secret sauce to sharpening steel; it’s just never been available at this level before.

As some people would say: less talk, more action. Watch the video! This giant leather wheel will flash a mirror-polished razor edge on anything faster than you can say what happened.

Sharpening with the edge of the leather is very different from its face; it\'s the edge-grain leather that gives us the surface we want. You now have 2-inch, dense, edge-grain leather, spinning at a faster 10-inch size (as opposed to factory 8.5-inch); it all adds to a remarkable experience.

Please note: any perceived wobble is due to the wheel not being surfaced on the side; the working face is perfectly round and accurate. This is not a defect; it’s a design feature; it causes a slight sweeping motion across the surface of your blade, preventing damage that might otherwise occur if you hold the blade edge in one place too long.

The abrasive quality of leather is equal to a stone wheel, and almost nobody knows this, and it always leaves a mirror finish at every stage, at all times. Alternatively, if you use a 3000-grit stone wheel, it’s still grit. Leather has no grit; think about that; no grit, yet it is as abrasive as stone. On a microscopic level, a stone will always leave a gritty, serrated edge; leather doesn\'t do that; leather leaves a perfect, mirror-clean edge like a quality razor blade. The paper challenge: showing a blade cut paper is not enough; it’s how it cuts that paper. Get a brand-new razor blade and make a paper cut, then compare it to your knife and see if it matches the razor; then you’ll know how sharp sharp can be. A flesh cut with a razor doesn\'t want to stop bleeding; that\'s because a knife (not as sharp as a razor) tears and pinches off the blood vessels, a razor blade doesn\'t do that.

It is no longer necessary to debur or strop your tools; this wheel does it all in one motion. You still use your primary wheel as normal, then switch to this leather wheel for the mirror finish cut. Since you already have your knife or tool clamped in its holder, it is immediately ready to switch from your diamond wheel to the leather wheel finish.

At Tarzan Gear, we’ve just completed our new leather wheel that will change the Tormek experience forever after. Those $500.00 Japanese stones are old news, our leather wheel won’t wear out and needs no maintenance. Now you can use your favorite jig on our matching 10-inch wheel and toss your old Tormek leather wheel in the garbage.

These are made from 100% vegetable-tanned cowhide; seven layers of 1/4-inch-thick hides, sewn together with heavy Dyneema thread. This wheel will outlast your Tormek machine. It was a difficult and expensive task to bring these to market. Once you try them, your whole concept of sharpening will be forever changed. Dyneema thread is 4 times stronger than Kevlar. This is a\"buy it once, use it for life\"tool.
