Little Bohemia - Extremely Rare - Hotel China 1930\'s Era - Mantowish Wisconsin - Dinner Plate

Offered for your consideration is an extremely rare late 1920\'s to early 1930\'s era 9\" wide china dinner plate made for the famous Little Bohemia Lodge in Mantowish, Wisconsin.

Though any piece from the Little Bohemia is very rare, the dinner plate, such as this one, is one of the even rarer pieces of the plates.

Historically, the Little Bohemia was the place for the famous shootout between John Dillinger and the G-Men on April 22nd, 1934. That the botched raid resulted in Dillinger and his gang escaping from the Little Bohemia.Dillinger\'s gang at the Little Bohemia included Baby Face George Nelson; Home Van Meter; Tommy Carroll, and John \"Red\" Hamilton. But only a short time later on June 22nd, 1934, John Dillinger died in Chicago during a shootout with federal agents after leaving a theater that night.

The lodge appears to have opened circa 1929 by Emil Wanatka who was a former restaurant operator from Chicago that sold his establishments and purchased the Little Bohemia Lodge and moved to Mantowish. The rest is history with the lodge and how it became almost world-wide famous after the 1934 shootout.

The lodge itself offered a fine dining room and lounge for serving fine dinners, which Emil Wanatka had a lot of experience providing while he was in Chicago in the restaurant business. This is the harder to find dinner plate that is in wonderful condition. It is the heavyweight type steamship, restaurant, and railroad china. It would have also been used in connection with the Little Bohemia hotel silver soldered - silver plate and glassware for use in the hotel\'s dining room and for private room service.

This dinner plate features the Liberty China - Albert Pick & Co. - McNicol China Co. backstamp. It is also in the very rare 9\" wide china dinner plate. This pattern is very scarce and does not surface that much. This was actual china used at one of the Wisconsin\'s most famous lodges for people to actually dine from.

It is in overall wonderful condition with hardly any usage; no cracks and no chips either. It does have one small manufacturing pimple at the 11 O’clock position as shown in the photo. Please study the photos and feel free to send a message with any questions.
