A beautiful specimen from a rare locality in Mineral County, Nevada, featuring rosettes of azurite partially replaced by malachite filling pockets in an iron oxide matrix. Full locality: Unnamed Prospect near Pilot Peak, Pilot Mountains Mining District, Mineral County, Nevada Overall specimen dimensions: 5.0 x 3.0 x 2.7 centimeters The Pilot Mountains Mining District is a relatively minor district in Mineral County with production of mercury, tungsten, copper, and gold from a variety of mines throughout the Pilot Mountains. Very little, if any, collectible minerals are known from this district. The recent discovery of well-crystallized copper mineralization from a small, unnamed prospect in the vicinity of Pilot Peak is an exception and represents some of the finer malachite after azurite pseudomorphs found in Nevada.
