For sale is a vintage lead souvenir building inkwell of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in New York City.
Compare Monumental Miniatures, plate # 150 which gives it a III/V rating in rarity and a 4/6 in value ($200-$500) or the more recently published Replica Buildings: A Visual History, plate # 1195 which values it at $100-$250.
The building is made of lead and dates to the 1910s.
It is missing its inkpot; overall it is in good used condition considering its age of over 100 years.
Note: The top of the spire is blunt.
The building measures: 2 1/4" across the front and rear; 3 3/4" along the sides; and is approx. 5" to the top of the tower.
Around its base it reads: Home Office / Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. / New York City / Largest Office Building in the World.
It has a warm aged patina and displays well.
Detail on the doors and windows is excellent.
