Milwaukee County Parks - Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Very Rare - 1930's Era - Heavyweight - Ironstone Sytle - Vintage Hotel China Top Logo - Butter Pat
Offered is a very rare and seldom seen 1930’s top logo 3” wide china butter pat for the famous Milwaukee County Park System that were and still are located in around the City of Milwaukee in Southeastern Wisconsin.
This is a wonderful and most amazing looking pattern, which pieces in the pattern do not surface that much. However, the butter pat is even scarcer, as not many of these were made, in comparison to, a lunch plate, dinner plate, and other rare china serving items.
If you collect the vintage ironstone - vitrified heavyweight butter pats, rare hotel china, vintage high-end restaurant ware, or historic Milwaukee antiques, you might want to consider this gem for your collection.
Historically, the Milwaukee County Park system was touted as one of the Nation’s finest park system, the parks were capitalized upon in the 1890’s and continue their popularity and growth today.During the time this china was made (in the 1930’s), the parks were very popular.This china most likely saw service at one of the Park’s Lunch Counters / Dining Room restaurants at the parks near the lakes or at the parks having golf courses.This butter pat is "not" souvenir china; rather, this is actual china that was used in a restaurant type setting at one of the few restaurants that were operated during the 1930's at the parks.
In Mitchell Park was the famous Mitchell Park Conservatory, which the original was 1898 and exhibited horticultural - flowers in a "greenhouse" setting and served the public until 1955 until it was deemed unsafe and impractical to repair and was demolished.There was also the famous Oak Creek Parkway, band / concert arenas, trails, etc.Today the Mitchell Parks Domes take its place, which were constructed in 1959.The parks today encompass 15,000 acres and have 140 parks.
When this butter pat was made, some of the parks included where this could have been used for either larger or even the smallest restaurant venues included: Doctors Park; Brown Deer Park; Kletzsch Park; Smith Park; McGovern Park; Lincoln Park; Estabrook Park; Currie Park; Sherman Park, Lake Park with Bradford Beach and McKinley Beach; Washington Park; Juneau Park; Greenfield Park; Jackson Park; Kosciuszko Park; Pulaski Park; Humbolt Park; Wilson Park; Root Beer Parkway; Whitnall park; Grant Park; Garfield Park; Gordon Park; Riverside Park; Hoyt Park; Sheridan Park, and the South Shore Park. There have been other parks added after the era that this butter pat was made, that is not included in the history here.
Again, such china like this marked from the Milwaukee County Parks is very scarce and hard to find. The butter pat does not have a backstamp, but was most likely made by the Onondaga Pottery Co. - OPCO – Syracuse China made in the 1930’s based on the few limited other different pieces made in this same pattern.The butterpat is in near mint condition with hardly any usage and no cracks and no chips. It would have been used in connection with the Milwaukee Parks hotel silver soldered - silver plate and glassware for actual table, counter, or outside dining venue when the restaurant(s) was open. It would have been made to hold single pats of butter for hot rolls, hot muffins, bread, and other baked items or entrees that could use an extra pat of butter of them. Rarely would you ever see anything like this even today in some of the finest operating restaurants, as this butter pat represents the bygone era when even the smallest of the restaurants, diners, and cafes could offer their guest fine hotel type china to dine with that proudly had their name or logo on the top (or bottom).
