This saw is the work of the 2nd generation Miyano Tetsunosuke (二代宮野鉄之助, 1901–1996), a saw smith from Miki, Hyogo — one of Japan\'s most historically significant centers of blade making. He was one of the few saw smiths of his era still forging with tamahagane (traditional tatara-smelted steel) long after most of the trade had moved to modern steel, and his work has been the subject of a special exhibition at the Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum. This particular saw is forged from Shirogami (白紙, white paper steel) rather than tamahagane — he worked in both. He passed away in 1996, and his saws are no longer being made; genuine pieces like this one are now very hard to come by.

Sold As a Blade — No Handle Fitted

This saw is sold as a bare blade, without a handle attached. If you intend to use it for cutting, have a handle fitted by someone experienced with Japanese saws before use. It can equally be kept and displayed as a vintage blade in its own right.
