The Model 1840 Cavalry Saber was adopted by the United States Army in 1840 as the primary saber for heavy cavalry. Inspired by the French Model 1822 light cavalry saber, the M1840 quickly earned the nickname "Wristbreaker" due to its large, heavy, and powerful design.This reproduction of the US M1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber has a blade of tempered high carbon steel with reproduced Ames sword manufacturer markings. The blade is stoutly mounted into brass and the grip is wrapped in black leather and twisted copper wire. The sword comes with a steel scabbard with steel hanging rings.
