We have owned these certificates since they came out and have kept them in a safe. Their Statue of Liberty designs, different colors, and silver certificate wording capture a distinctive chapter in American private currency history.ABOUT THE LIBERTY DOLLARBernard von NotHaus created the Liberty Dollar through NORFED, later also known as Liberty Services. The organization presented these paper certificates as warehouse receipts associated with silver under the terms printed on their backs.The Liberty Dollar became controversial over its intended use as an alternative to U.S. currency. In 2006, the U.S. Mint warned that Liberty Dollar medallions were not legal tender and objected to their use as circulating money. In 2011, von NotHaus was convicted on charges involving Liberty Dollar coins.
