We offer a charming and rare transvestite needlesculpture doll by famed doll maker Nerissa Shaub. The art doll is signed and dated \"c. Nerissa 7-20-81\" on one hip and named \"York\" on the opposite hip.Nerissa Shaub first made needlessculpture dolls of elderly women and elderly transvestite men in 1979 and continued making individual art dolls until her collection numbered one thousand creations. She then expanded her creations toward younger themed porcelain dolls.Nerissa described her elderly dolls as \"happy dolls\" and \"prime time ladies\". \"We\'re happy about the dolls because they showed an elderly person, old and wrinkled. The needlesculpture dolls represented the older people as altogether, happy, centered beings. They had earned their position in life. They were their own people, in total control.\"Our doll \"York\" is presented in a sitting position wearing a green boa trimmed blouse with a plunging neckline , a floral skirt, long pink stockings and green shoes. A green hat sets off her red hair (which matches below) and her nails are impeccably polished in purple. An arrow pierced red hearted tattoo reading \"MOM\" is proudly displayed on one arm. Her white laced bloomers conceal her \"something extra\".\"York\" is in very good vintage condition and measures 19\" in length, 5\" in width and 7\" in depth.
