This is a fully polished piece of Burmite (Burmese) amber that contains a nicely preserved worker ant from the Cretaceous Period.
The ant measures 4.5 mm in length (not including legs).
This fossil would look great in a ring setting for jewelry.
This insect would have been on the Earth at the time of the dinosaurs including T-Rex and Triceratops.
Geological studies have dated Burmite amber to be around 100 million years old.
The piece itself weighs 1.4 grams with approximate dimensions of 2.3 cmlength by1.5 cm width and 0.5 cm height. NOTE: 2.54 cm is 1 inch.

Burmese (Burmite)amber has been dated to be Cretaceous in age (around 100 million years old) and would have been sticky resin during the time of the dinosaurs.
When one realizes that this amber has been dated to around 100 million years old, it is something to see insects from that time.

Please note that thesaltwater test to identify real from fake amber is not reliable. The saltwatertest claims that real amber will float in saltwater while fake amber will sink.
However, many ambersources or even specimens will not float in saltwater as their botanical(plant) composition as well as fossil inclusions are such that they are moredense than saltwater and so sink. I do not sell fake amber. My response shouldhelp demonstrate this.
