Norfolk Southern Railroad 1988 Ohio Timetable Operating Safety Rule Books LotOriginal Norfolk Southern Railway employee operating-material lot consisting of three pieces from the late 1980s/early 1990s. Included is Northern Region, Ohio Division Timetable No. 1, effective Sunday, July 24, 1988; a gray Norfolk Southern Operating Rules loose-leaf employee binder; and an orange Safety and General Conduct Rules loose-leaf employee binder.
The Ohio Division timetable is marked “For the Government of Employees Only” and contains detailed railroad operating information for Ohio territory, including the Columbus and Cincinnati districts, stations, mileposts, sidings, capacities, interlockings, railroad crossings, traffic-control instructions, speed information and other employee operating data. The rear cover bears handwritten employee notations.
The gray binder contains Norfolk Southern operating rules together with Form NS-1, Rules for Equipment Operation and Handling, effective January 1, 1990, and revised operating-rule pages dated through 1989. The orange binder includes Norfolk Southern\'s Six Point Action Plan for Safety of Operations and related safety/general-conduct material. These were working railroad employee publications rather than public passenger literature; Norfolk Southern\'s operating rules specifically required affected employees to have access to the Operating Rules, timetable, Safety and General Conduct Rules, and Form NS-1.
