Ogdens Boy Scout cigarette tobacco cards collection. 1912 2nd Series, 1912 3rd Series, 1913 4th Series, and 1914 5th Series. Total of 175 cars in excellent (unglued) condition.
These cards are among the earliest and most extensive Scouting-related tobacco card sets. Ogdens, a Liverpool tobacco company, inserted them in cigarette packaging during the rapid growth of the British Scout movement.
The cards are approximately 1 3/8 " x 2 5/8". Their fronts carry attractive color lithographs, while their backs contain the card number, title, explanatory text and Ogden's advertising. The cards depict a broad picture of early Scouting including camping, signaling, first aid, and nature study.
Card No. 225 is especially interesting because it explains soccer's offside rule as it was understood in 1914. Cards 178-183, covering boxing, wrestling, and jiu-jitsu also attract collectors of early sports cards.
Each Series is professionally matted and framed with each card individually matted so that the back of each card is visible. All cards are in excellent condition and each series comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Perfect for any collector of Boy Scout memorabilia or any collector of tobacco memorabilia.
