For sale is a very fine and high quality Okudo Tomae finishing stone stamped by the Nakamura family operation.
It is a thick perfect barber hone sized stone that is great for hand or bench honing. This stone is exceptionally fine and I highly recommend it for finishing straight razors although it\'s good for sharpening knives and edged tools as well. The line in the middle is purely cosmetic and quite common on okudo tomae, it cannot be felt honing, does not effect the edge, and is non-toxic. It actually adds a cool look to the stone along with the two-tone colors and swirling patterns.
Okudo is a mine known for producing the highest quality suita stones but it also produces equally high quality and fine tomae stones although they are far more rare.
I finished a bunch of razors on the stone and it produces a very keen and smooth shaving edge and is easy to use and get a great edge off of.
The response is super smooth and almost slippery when using slurry and you can feel how fine the abrasive particles are. This stone is an absolute pleasure to use and would be a welcome addition to the collection of even the most avid collector.
When using slurry the slurry starts out very fine and breaks down even finer, this stone is as fine or finer than many level 5 to 5+ nakayama/shobudani/ozuku etc. stones that I tested it against while being slightly softer and more forgiving/easy to use. I reccomend finishing on a thin broken down slurry instead of plain water as it really pushes the edge to the next level, especially when finishing a straight razor.
The stone is hard enough for nagura progressions but would be best using somewhat softer nagura unless you don\'t mind a bit of base stone in your slurry. I actually prefer a stone a bit softer than a level 5 as you can build and refresh your nagura slurry much faster than trying to rub a hard nagura on a lvl 5+ stone which can be a pain and end up randomly scratching your base stone.
Overall this is a high quality stone and premium razor finisher. I would love to keep it in the collection but I have a lot of stones in this performance and hardness range so I figured I would let it go and give another person a chance to own such a good stone and thoroughly tested finisher.
