Authentic , Rare original World War II industrial advertisement and home-front poster printed in late 1943.
Titled "The Normandie Rises Again - Now the U.S.S. Lafayette", this massive 26” x 41” standard US one-sheet poster was published by Oakite Products, Inc. to celebrate the monumental engineering and salvage feat of righting the capsized French luxury ocean liner SS Normandie at Pier 88 in New York Harbor on August 7, 1943.
The poster features striking graphic illustrations, official U.S. Navy photographs detailing the multi-step salvage process, and a fascinating breakdown of how Oakite chemical cleaning materials and steam detergent compounds were utilized by the U.S. Navy and Todd Shipyards to clear out sludge and bunker oil from the ship’s interior.
It also features a "Buy War Bonds" campaign block at the bottom alongside Oakite's vintage seahorse mascot.
