Up for sale is a very rare originalLuis Milciades "Miche" Medina El Mundo cartoon artwork.
This is an original pen-and-ink editorial artwork by Puerto Rican cartoonist Miche Medina, created for publication in El Mundo, one of Puerto Rico's most influential newspapers. Medina was born in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic in the 1930's, and arrived in Puerto Rico after working for the newspaper La Nacion in his home country. Miche settled in Rio Piedras, and his cartoons became essential visuals for the identity for El Mundo.
This original titled¡POR FIN! ("Finally!")or ("At last!")celebrates Santurce's victory over the Senadores de San Juan in the battle for the San Juan "City Championship." Medina humorously depicts the crowned Santurce crab delivering a knockout punch to the battered Senator while declaring, "¿Tú quieres City Champ? ¡Toma!" ("You wanted the City Championship? Here—take it!").
The six teams active in the Puerto Rican Winter Baseball League during the 1971–1972 season are listed below. The league was founded as Liga de Béisbol Profesional de Puerto Rico in 1938, and is now known as the Liga de Béisbol Professional Roberto Clemente.During the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Puerto Rican league was highly competitive, serving as a winter destination for prominent MLB players.The Hall of Fame legend and local icon Roberto Clemente spent his entire domestic winter career with the Senadores de San Juanand Cangrejeros de Santurce, managing and playing right into the early 1970's.
