This is a stunning, mirror-imagedpair of hand-carved Chinese soapstone statuesdepicting the mythic chimerical guardians known asPixiu (or Bixie). Revered in Chinese culture as symbols of wealth, protection, and feng shui luck, these dynamic creatures are beautifully sculpted with fierce, expressive dragon-like heads, powerful low-slung leonine bodies, cloven hooves, and elegant fluid manes that sweep backward into stylized tails.

• Artisanship & Stone:The figures are carved from a high-quality block of variegated soapstone. It features gorgeous natural earth-toned marbling with bands of rich amber, creamy ochre, and deep chocolate brown. The carver utilized the stone's natural color striations to accent the deeply incised, sweeping lines of the thick manes and rib cages.
