Peoria, Illinois\' \"Illinios Sugar Bowl\" Scammells Trenton China Platter Restaurant Ware
Offered is a Scammells Trenton China platter measuring 8-1/2\" x 5-7/8\". It was made for the Illinois Sugar Bowl in Peoria, Illinois in 1924-1930 time frame. The creative log features a lovely young lady sitting in a sugar bowl while eating ice cream out of a glass \"penny lick.\" The rim is adorned with a distinct black and white checkered border pattern. Most likely this platter would have been used to serve banana splits, or could pressed into service for hot dogs and fries.
Originally named Lekas, it was renamed to the Illinois Sugar Bowl when it moved to 422 Main Street in 1917. The Illinois Sugar Bowl was a Lunch Room/Ice Cream Parlor/Soda Fountain shop catering to after theater movie goers. Fotis S. Lekas was a long time Vice President. The shop ceased operations at the end of 1940.
There is some staining and wear from use. There are also at least two small glazing pimples. But there are no chips or cracks. Please study the photos and feel free to message me with questions.
