The underside of the bowl is stamped Peterson and BARREL, identifying the model. Peterson\'s Barrel is a compact variation of the traditional Poker shape, characterized by its rounded barrel-like bowl and streamlined shank. The Barrel was originally introduced as part of Peterson\'s Specialty shapes in 1945. Modern documented examples use briar construction and a nickel mount, consistent with the configuration seen here.
The smooth briar bowl displays attractive reddish-brown grain and natural variations in the wood. A contrasting metal band reinforces the shank-to-stem junction, while the long vulcanite-style stem terminates in Peterson\'s recognizable elevated P Lip mouthpiece.
This example has been previously smoked and is being offered as an estate pipe. The chamber retains carbon buildup and the rim shows smoking-related darkening. The stem has visible oxidation, scratches, scuffs and tooth/contact wear near the button. The briar retains an attractive overall appearance with normal handling wear from age and use.

Authentic vintage Peterson Barrel estate pipe in used, unrestored condition. Previously smoked with carbon buildup inside the chamber and darkening around the rim. Smooth briar shows scratches, handling marks and normal finish wear while retaining attractive grain and coloration. Metal band has age-related patina and surface wear. Black stem shows oxidation, scratches, scuffs and visible tooth/contact wear around the P Lip mouthpiece. Peterson P stem logo and Barrel identification remain visible. Storage history is unknown.
