This is a rare pre-1950s lot of Irish shillelagh-style cudgel pieces and authentic Irish bog wood, originally brought from County Cork by my mother’s family. The largest piece is genuine Irish bog wood, showing the classic layered splitting, dark peat-stained surface, and heavy density associated with centuries-old bog-preserved timber.
Included are several short (12"–14") Irish cudgel blanks, hand-selected and partially shaped in the traditional style. One handle features a carved shamrock, a classic detail of Irish folk craftsmanship. These were used historically as “bata” or cudgel-style sticks rather than walking sticks.
Bog wood from Ireland is highly collectible and often used in heritage carvings, decorative pieces, and cultural displays. This lot offers a unique combination of bog wood and traditional cudgel components.
